What’s the Difference between a Knob, a Lever and a Handleset?
Knobs are usually round and Levers are usually elongated horizontally, and both can be found for interior and exterior doors. Handlesets are elongated vertically and are typically found on the front entry door of the house or dwelling.
What is handing and how do I determine the handing of my residential door?
Handing is the swing of the door, does it swing to the left or to the right. The way you determine the handing of the residential door is to place your back against the hinges and if the door swings right it is a right hand and if it swings left it is a left hand. This is what determines the handing of the lever sets on the door.
How do I take the necessary measurements so I order the correct door hardware?
All residential door hardware (levers and knobs) fits in a standard 2 1/8 inch hole. Front door handlesets however will have an additional hole below the standard hole. This will be a smaller hole about a 1/4 inch and will vary depending on the style and make of your hardware. Pamex has a couple of different styles to match about any measurement and still cover the bottom hole.
