Door Hardware in Focus: Door Knobs!

Written By Richard Dinae, and edited by Steven Seigler

Doors portray the role of a regulatory board when it comes to access especially in entry and exit points. They either provide or limit admission. What composes these doors are called door hardware

which includes the hinge (attachment of the door to the frame or to the wall; usually, a door has three hinges), door closer (slows the closure of the door behind someone), handles and fasteners. Handles can be doorknobs, door handle or crash bar.

Depending on the type of the establishment and the aura it wants to project, you should consider the use of the appropriate door hardware. Maybe you're onto minimalism, Victorian era type design or modern houses, you have to choose the proper door hardware to go and match your house.

Door handles are a lever or knob in an axle mechanism used in regulating access of doors. It can be rotated to release the bolt. This is important door hardware. Without this, your door will look bare and incomplete. There are certain rooms in your house that you would want your door knobs to be specially secured. The master's bedroom and the comfort rooms are perfect examples of these rooms. You should choose the door knobs according to the use and function you want.

The Privacy

If you want privacy, then go for the privacy door knobs. It is a door hardware that has a child security feature which can be locked from the inside of the door and unlocked outside. Using just a screwdriver or pin, you can unlock it from the outside.

The Passage

If you have an opening that requires a door and a handle to maintain the style, however you do not need to restrict access the passage lock is a great solution.

The Entry

An entry door knob or lever is a type of keyed door hardware which can be locked both inside and out. However, the outside can be locked only with the use of a key. These types of door knobs are usually fit for exterior doors and gates.

The Dummy

Another type of door hardware is the so-called dummy hardware. This dummy hardware is usually just for show. This is usually used for double doors where one is just stationary. It usually serves for the purpose of uniformity. It can also exist where there is already a latch on the door. It is added for appeal.

The Classroom

The Classroom function is a option that comes on most commercial hardware instead of residential.  However it is still an important function.  It was invented for just what you think,  To protect classrooms.  The function can be locked and unlocked from both sides of the of the handle to facilitate an emergency in public buildings.

Glass door knobs are usually used to project elegance. However, these may not be the appropriate door hardware when you have a child in your house. These are not child-friendly. They are also not durable. They are usually chosen to accentuate home decors or style of door.

Antique door knobs are used to project vintage feel. Usually, this type of door hardware is made of wood. It is used as an accent to Victorian era type of homes. However, today, we also have antique door knobs with brass finishes or those which are made of iron.
